What I Learned About Success From Vanessa Lau

What I Learned About Success From Vanessa Lau

What I learned about success from vanessa lau.

Vanessa is a business coach that helps millennials quit their 9-5 so that they can chase after their dreams.

I was lying on the couch one day, staring at the ceiling and I had a pit in my stomach. I was struggling to grow my Instagram account and make waves with my blog.

For months, I had been waking up at ridiculous times, all so that I could pursue this thing called starting a business for myself. I had a headache that just wouldn’t go away and I was feeling defeatist which was my normal mood.

Most times I was on cloud nine, but today I was tired of endlessly pursuing my dreams and hearing crickets. I just wanted to give up. What is an unemployed girl supposed to do.

I had given up years ago on pursuing a 9-5 job because when I sent out fillers all I heard was the clicking of my keyboard and then nothing. Most days were spent with me watching television and I was starting to become a couch potato. Flash forward years into the future and I was actually doing it. One day, I decided to talk to my niece about was I going through.

“Maybe, I should change my brand. I mean, it could be that I am just not getting fillers because no one is interested. It is not like I can sell products to myself.”

She looked at me and with the wisdom of most nineteen years old, she said. “Yeah, maybe.”

No one was going to give me the answers I needed so I decided to search for myself. After that is what Google is there for so I have been told countless times and I dove headfirst into the murky waters to see what I could find.

This is what most gurus talk about when it comes to success, that there’s no such thing as overnight success stories. We hear all about it because who doesn’t want to be motivated and they are motivating. I couldn’t find anything on Google to ease my heart so I went to Youtube and something popped up in my feed. What drew me to the video was that we shared the same first name then the second thing I looked at what was the title. It was about how to grow your Instagram account.

I watched the video, it was the first time I heard about Vanessa Lau, I have embarrassed to even say that especially when I found out that she was a millennial business coach. I had believed for the longest time I knew all the top dogs in the millennial niche. I realized with shame that wasn’t the case at all and I started to look up anything, I could about her.

Vanessa saw the world in a way that almost every successful person does. I subscribed to her email list then and then hoped onto her Facebook group. I knew of a few people who had achieved the success she had, but I discovered that she was different from most entrepreneurs.

A question played in my mind, “how much are you willing to sacrifice to go after your dreams?”

It was from a documentary I watched weeks ago called the “Age of the Entrepreneur,” and now I had to ask that question. Often when it comes to entrepreneurs or anyone that’s successful, we never see their sacrifice or hard it was to reach to the top, but with Vanessa Lau, I came to understand that nothing comes easy.

In fact, most things are hard to achieve and it takes time to move the needle. These are the five things I learned about  success from Vanessa Lau.

Not everyone’s backstory is the same

“You need a job, most successful people had a job and then they made their money on the side,” I often heard when I spoke to people about my dreams.

“Yeah, I have been trying that for years, still have no job. It isn’t like I can go to someone else’s office and do a whole Beautiful Mind thing and be offered a

job.” They’d shake their heads and mumble something under their breath.

When you listen to the advice of successful people, most of them say things like don’t quit your job. Instead, keep working and start saving money for your dream career. Well, they have a point, but there are a lot of people who don’t have that choice.

A lot of people no matter how much they try, can’t get employed and find themselves watching Youtube videos of how to make money online. Take Lewis Howes, for example, he was sleeping on his sister’s couch and came up with an idea to help people on LinkedIn get jobs. Eventually, with time, he started making strides and he then created the School of Greatness.

Then there’s Vanessa Lau who quit her job without a backup plan. She left her glamorous corporate job and ended up working as a part-time coffee barista to support herself while working on launching her business.

Invest in yourself

“I mean why would I pay for something if I can get it free online,” I hear a lot of times.

“Well, Youtube is great and all, but you still are missing out on important information.”

“Online courses are a scam,” after hearing that I would nod and change the subject.

It is normal to want to not pay for anything after all nowadays you can literally get anything for free. And that is the problem, I get it, spending money that you don’t have is terrifying because if everything plops then well what do you do next. You can’t exactly go to your family members and ask for money.

But investing in yourself is important, more than that it is necessary if you want to be successful. In my early twenties, all I did with my money was buy food from expensive restaurants and movie tickets. I didn’t invest in myself, I saw no need to do that, I didn’t learn any new skills and that was the problem.

Vanessa Lau while working as a barista invested in herself, bought courses and surrounded herself with six and seven-figure entrepreneurs. We all know that

that what a barista earns is crummy and yet she found a way. Danial DiPiazza from Rich 20 Something was a waiter before he started his freelancing career and within four months had made enough to launch his business.

Vanessa Lau knew there was more to life

I had a dream internship way back in 2014, the first six months of the year was like a dream. I had lived in Switzerland and now I was living in South Africa, doing my internship. I was also getting paid, it was unbelievable, but the problem was that I was depressed. I had to get onto a train to get to my workplace and I dragged my feet ever day.

The job was boring and I looked forward to Fridays like most of us do when we are working. For other people in certain parts of the world they look forward to their Saturdays.

“Is this what working is like?” I asked my mother on the phone.

“That’s what growing up is like,” she said. “With time you will get used to it.”

I nodded, even though I knew she couldn’t see me. I felt this emptiness that I couldn’t describe. Later on, I realized most people feel this way, they don’t like looking forward to their weekends. They drag their feet on Mondays, over indulge in coffee, they loathe their bosses and don’t believe the message of the company.

Even people from Facebook eventually lead their jobs because there’s no perfect job unless you work for yourself.

Peter Voogd, the millennial thought leader, once said, “you either are building your dream or someone elses.”

That statement changed the way I looked at life. Vanessa Lau must have felt the same at one time because she worked on her dream knowing that there was

something more out there and she just had to followed the yellow bricked road or in this case the steps to get to where to wanted to go.

Hustle is the name of the game

I was at the top of my class in Switzerland, I can’t tell you how competitive schooling in Switzerland is like. They believe in bulking one year of school into six

months.

For me, getting there wasn’t easy. My parents had to take a loan to pay $24,000 for the six months I’d be there and I had got there late. Normally, nothing

happens in the first week of school. Boy, was I wrong? I was so behind, they had already begun writing their thesis report papers and I had to catch up and

that wasn’t easy.

I believed as most millennials do that if you go to an overly priced school, hustle until your eyeballs pop out of your skull, make it into the top position and

you will get a good job. I did all that, had an internship and I found myself unemployed despite pulling all the stops. Most millennials believe that a job will fix

everything, in the past it did, but now it doesn’t.

I am not saying that a job is bad if it is for you then great. Vanessa Lau like a lot of millennials are made to believe in a lie that society often tells. Unlike most

millennials she went after her dreams despite the odds because she understood that a job won’t satisfy you.

I know a lot of people who feel as if their job isn’t satisfying them, but they still do it because they think that’s the only choice they have. That it is the only

thing that they can do. I get it, but at the same time. I ask myself the question, is it worth it in the end.

If you are strapped for cash and want to start making money on the side to help you build your business, here are quick side-hustle ideas to get you started.

You need a mentor

One thing that people always struggle with is paying for a mentor, but here’s the thing if you want to get to the top a lot quicker then it is important that you

have one. The difference is paying for a course or a book is that it only delivers a handful of great advice. A book can only tell you so much about how to

achieve success before it becomes redundant and the same thing for a course.

There are so many books that I read and invested money in buying courses. Invested time in watching webinars, but I couldn’t ask questions. Before Vanessa

Lau could achieve success, she had to surround herself with people who where were she wanted to be. Last month, I invested in a mentor. It was worth every

penny because even though the information is free there are still missing pieces. For example, how to successful people find affordable virtual assistants?

You can only learn this from investing in a course or how do you find a loan for your business. There are plenty plus solutions out there to meet your needs,

you just have to look for them.

I have learned so much in one month then I have learned in three years of paying for courses. Every successful person has had a mentor and still has one.

Vanessa Lau is no different.

You need to be consistent

Every entrepreneur says the same thing, you need to be consistent, whether it is with your blog, growing your Facebook groups or Instagram. You have to be

follow through, but I had no idea how powerful it truly was until Vanessa Lau sent an email letting her email subscribers know that she has grown her

Youtube account to 100,000 in a year. Yup, not an exaggeration. In a year, that’s incredibly inspirational and I think most people don’t talk about consistency

enough and it can get overlooked.

Being an entrepreneur is a lot of work, in fact, it requires dedication and effort to make things work, and it doesn’t happen overnight. Nathan Chan always

says, if you want to grow your Instagram account be consistent, post once to twice a day. How many of us actually do that, but Vanessa Lau kept doing it and

she’s the epitome of what it means to hustle for your dreams. She has an awesome course on how to grow your Instagram account, you can find it right

here.

Vanessa Lau shows us that success is possible, but it all comes down to how dedicated you are in actually making it happen. She’s a millennial that

understands how important to chase after your dreams, no matter what anyone says. Here are some awesome free resources from Vanessa Lau on

dominating social media and creating an unstoppable brand.

Be respectful and resourceful

I am part of Vanessa’s awesome 10, 000 member group and one of the things she lists down in her announcements is to be respectful. When you are starting

out, it is easy to forget your manners. But even social media requires you to be respectful. Sending messages to people in Facebook groups is disrespectful

and yet a lot of us do it.

Another thing that we do is go to groups and start asking questions without doing our research. When you are starting a business, you need to be

resourceful.

Google has to become your new next best friend and that is the only way you can grow. If you want to achieve momentum then that’s what you have to do.

Vanessa Lau reminded me of that, you need to learn how to be resourceful and then what you learn you can then use to build your brand,

Many of us struggle when it comes to productivity. If we took at a look online, it is easy to discover that it is one of the most searched terms and there’s a reason for this. Truth is, most of suck us at productivity and to actually be successful it is one of those skills that is needed. Without it, life becomes a whole lot harder.

You need to be productive at work. You require it at home, the list goes on and on.

If you want to make progress, you need to know how to be productive, but most of us struggle knowing what productivity hacks we need in order to truly be a success. So, the millionaire dollar question is what are the productivity hacks that can help us manage our time better. In this post, I list down the best

productivity hacks that will help you to manage your time. Success never comes easy and most times we require a little help to push us in the right direction, that is what you will learn about in this post. How to manage your productivity like a boss.

Stop multi-tasking

Growing up my mother always said, ” a woman should be able to multitasking,”

And I’d say. “Well, most women aren’t like Dexter’s mother or you, so I don’t think multitasking is for me.” I’d cross my arms as a form of protest.

She’d roll her eyes. “As a woman, you must be able to multi-task.”

For all the women who can actually multi-task, I’d love to know how you do it because I can’t do it. Studies show most people struggle to multi-task, usually, when we try to we lose focus. Though I have come to realize there are certain things that are easier to multi-task, when you are cooking, it is a lot easier to do this because you are using the same type of brainpower. You can’t multitask between reading a book and writing a blog post for example. It doesn’t make any sense.

What ends up happening is you put far too much pressure on yourself and that in itself is never a good thing.

You need to understand that multitasking is the worst things you can do for yourself, most successful people don’t do this. You can’t do two things at once and still manage your time better. This is one productivity hack that will definitely help you manage your time better.

Keep track of your time

Many of us are terrible at keeping track of our time, that is the problem. We have no idea what to do next or how much time we are wasting doing trivial things.

For the longest time, I used to be like this. I’d wake up early and before I knew it, I’d have wasted so much time doing stupid things. I hated it because I’d never know what I did with my time. Now, I make sure that I keep track of my time.

In the beginning, this will be difficult so if you want to excel at it then you need to do the Pomodoro Technique. If you have no clue what this is, I explain. Basically, you do tasks after every twenty minutes. Okay, unless you are fast when it comes to doing tasks this will be impossible. You can use the Pomodoro simply as a way to keep track of all the things you do.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to track your time. That way you at least realize what you are doing with your time. For example, have an important call and you have only twenty minutes to spare then you this technique to help you manage your time a lot better. It works great especially if you struggle with managing your time. This productivity hack is simple to implement if you want to manage your time a lot better, but you do have to be patient with yourself.

Write down your goals

One of the best decisions I ever made was to start writing down my goals, so I would write down all the things I would want to achieve in a day, week, month and year, That whole thing made things so much better for me in terms of actually achieving my goals. All the gurus say that you must write down your goals and there’s a valid reason why you should do it.

Writing down your goals makes it easier to achieve them, a reminder pops in your head every time you look at your goals. A trick here is to write in the future

tense rather than the present. So, instead of saying I want to make $10,000 a month, you say I made $10,000 per month. This whole process makes you more

likely to achieve it. That’s because you start believing that you can do it.

Write down the tasks you want to complete that day, there are a lot of things you can to speed up the process, but it helps for you to understand you must limit the number of things you have on your to-do list. Focus on at least five because when you try to do more than that, you won’t be able to achieve it. In the beginning, it is better to focus on less so that you can achieve more.

If you need a little help with accomplishing your goals, there’s an awesome course all about how you can slay your goals. Click on the banner below and it will take you straight to the sales page. Belong to a community that will help you crush your goals and excel in every area of your life.

Create a morning ritual that works

How your day starts affects the rest of your day. If you have a unproductive morning, that is how the whole day will be. Most people don’t realize this and that is why they end becoming so frustrated. You want to be productive then the simpler solution is to look at what your morning ritual is. Your morning ritual is extremely important.

For example, if you wake up at 6 am and then you are in a rush to get ready for work, chances are that is how your whole day will be like. I have discovered that the sweet spot in the morning is 4 am. You are alert, can do better and you are far more productive than if you are rushing to get ready. When you wake up early, you have time to plan your day, think about what you want to do.

The reason why most people will never achieve their goals is because they wake up too late. Your brain doesn’t have time to process everything, also when you over sleep, your body is flooded with the wrong hormones. Excess progesterone which is responsible for making you sleepy usually occurs when you over sleep. It is a hormonal imbalance.

As simple as it is, sleeping is one of the best productivity hacks you can implement so you can manage your time a whole lot better.

Track your milestones and keep note of your failures

One of the best things I ever did for myself was taking note of my failures as well as the milestones I reached. This can be beneficial to you actually progressing in life.  When I was younger, I had a teacher who always used to tell us that you need to write down all your successes and failures. No one understood what she was talking about. Besides the fact we were eleven-year-old kids who had yet to learn about how the world worked, to us it didn’t exactly make any sense.

Kids hands shot up, ” why do we need to write down our failures? Wouldn’t that make us sad.”

She nodded, understanding the truth hidden behind that question. “You will never go far in life if you allow rejection and failure to cripple you.”

At eleven, I didn’t understand it, but now years later I do. Most of us don’t want to take note of our failures because we don’t want to accept that we have

failed. No one wants to go around and shout at the top of their voices, how they have failed. Unless you like feeling like crap. Most of us want to avoid that feeling and we have become experts at it.

Though, if you want to progress you have to accept both the good and bad. You have to appreciate the good and bad days, because only then can you

understand who you are and where you want to go with your life.

Deadlines are a smart way to work

Have you ever tried to get something done and weren’t motivated to do so. Many of us have gone through that. In school, it was so much easier to get things

done because we had a deadline to achieve. When we didn’t make it, we would be reprimanded or we would simply fail the grade. Our brain has been

programmed from an early age that we can do much more with deadlines.

That is the reason without them it is hard getting work done or even getting our tasks done. We have to know come up with our own deadlines, tell us ourselves what will happen if we don’t meet them. We can also give incentives if we make deadlines, This is a simple way to getting things done in time, rather than procrastinating and never doing it.

To achieve success we need to realize that we have to do things the smart way, rather than struggling along and never making it because we are trying to do

things the hard way. That doesn’t work. If you want to manage your time a lot better, this productivity hack will help you manage your time better. You just need to realize that we work best when we are under pressure and setting deadlines does the job.

Don’t neglect your sleep

A little confession to make, I wasn’t one of those college kids who could party all night, sleep for two hours and be alright. If I had less than four hours of sleep then I’d fall asleep in class. I had insomnia in school so I struggled sleeping and that made it hard to concentrate. It was then that I realized I had to have a minimum of six hours of sleep to make through the day. Here’s an article about how you can avoid being burnt out, you should read it. It will help you understand how important it is to take care of us.

Most of us now still act like college kids, yeah getting older sucks. I do get that, but if you are mentally tired, you can’t make a lot of progress. Sometimes we need to swallow the hard truth and accept that we cannot go without sleep. When you are sleep, your body is still working and that is why they suggest that you sleep for at least six hours. Most people walk around, dragging their feet and fatigue clogging their mind.

Take your time to rest so that you can be far more productive, this is a far better way to do things than to try and push yourself. That can have detrimental effects in the long run.

These are some of the best productivity hacks that you can implement today to help you manage your time a lot better.

Quick Side-Hustle Ideas To Start at Home

Quick Side-Hustle Ideas To Start at Home

quick ideas of side-hustles you can start at home in 2019.

These side-hustles will get you going and you can start your business as start as today.

Some of the links below are affiliate links, which means that if you choose to make a purchase, I will earn a commission. I am recommending these tools because they are helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to buy something. Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals.

So what exactly is a side-hustle and why is it everyone keeps going on about it? Well, the short version of that answer is that a side-hustle is a cool name for a

part-time job. One that you can do at your own leisure and at home. That is why over the last few years it has taken off. Side-hustles have been around for years, the problem is most people have no idea how to profit from a side-hustle. In this blog post, you will learn side-hustles that you can start doing at home.

It is a beginner-friendly way of starting a business without diving in completely. Okay, so this post with give you quick ideas of side-hustles that you can start at home. If you read through this whole post, you will realize that it isn’t as hard as it is.

Side-hustles can range from easy to difficult, but there is so much earning potential when it comes to a side-hustle it is unbelievable. If you were to write down the most successful people that you know about, they all started with a side-hustle and most of them don’t cost a lot of money to do.

Yeah, you could do a side-hustle and starting earning money within less than the month. I am not trying to selling you a ridiculous idea only so I can crush your bubble, starting a side hustle is pretty easy. All you need is a laptop, WI-FI and an hour or two a day.

The reason why most people don’t start a business is that they believe, they don’t have time to do so, but if you are given an hour a day to do it, then time isn’t an issue. Another answer arises when you speak to people about starting a side-hustle, often they say they don’t have money to do it.

You don’t need a lot of money to start a side-hustle. In fact, all you need is a few dollars and that’s it. There are also a lot of side-hustles that don’t require any

capital at all. It is mostly about willpower and pushing yourself past the barriers that hold you back. That’s it. Okay, I will show you the earning potential and a few ideas you can start with when you are working on your side-hustle so let’s go.

Tutoring

Times have changed, I remember dreading having tutors because when they’d come to my house, it always felt like a chore. Now, there are online tutors and you can make a considerable amount of money teaching people online.

I had a friend who was doing this so she could pay her bills and she was making a bit of money from it. What’s great about this is you set your own schedule and you get paid on time. What’s there not to love. I know teachers used to have to endure the abuse from their students.

It might come off as impersonal, but it isn’t. Normally you tutor a student at a time and get to know the student. You also get a few skills along the way. When it comes to becoming an entrepreneur, one of the skill-sets you must develop is knowing how to communicate and educate your students. This is great training.

Online Freelancing

The first side-hustle that I ever did was freelancing and I still do it, but not as much as I did before. There’s so much earning potential that it is unbelievable. You can do a lot of awesome stuff when it comes to freelancing. If I am being honest, the sky is the limit.

When I started I was doing writing, but I know not a lot of people like writing so you can choose literally anything. If you are great at graphic design you can do that as well. Maybe, you prefer something else like designing book covers, that can earn you a lot of money. There are a couple of sites that pay $60 to $300 for one book cover.

The great thing about freelancing is you can literally do anything. Let’s say you don’t have any skills that you know of so you can become a virtual assistant. There are virtual assistants that earn anything from $3000 to $10,000 per month.

If this is the first time hearing about a virtual assistant, this is a swanky name for someone who is an assistant, but online. Normally what they do are small tasks; replying to emails, answering calls, data services and following up with clients.

VA’s have become so popular in recent years that you do need to learn a bit, grow your client base before your name gets out there, but still, it is a great side

hustle if you are pressed for time.

Another great freelance gig you can do is transcribing. This one is easier to start with than the others. All you really need to do is listen to audios and transcribe the words. Considering how many podcasts require this, the earning potential is massive.

Starting off can be tricky if you have no idea where to begin, so I have listed awesome courses, sites, and free training to help speed up the process. Most people struggle with freelancing is because they don’t know where to begin so don’t make the same mistakes.

List your house

This one is downright easy, I don’t understand why most people don’t do it. I get it, it’s scary listing your house or apartment, but that’s why you need to go to

legitimate sites. If you post it, you can earn a bit of money. The great thing about that is that most sites now do a thorough check and you don’t need a lot of

money.

You make sure that your house looks great and take awesome photos, put it up on the site and watch the money roll in. This is however, not for everyone. I

understand that, so I do get it. Absolutely, but if you are little intrigued check this one out and see if you are comfortable doing this.

Starting this as I explained above is easy and it won’t take much time to do that as well. There are also a lot of options for you to start. The problem with this is you can’t make a full-time income and the growth potential is limited. If you think that you could take this and it will replace your day job, it won’t do that, but it will give you extra capital. And you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home to do it so it is a win-win situation.

This is an easy side hustle you can start in a day and make money quickly.

Buy and Sell things

The earning potential for this is ridiculous, but you must be willing to spend money. Compared to the other ones I listed above, you need capital, but there’s a way around it where you don’t have to spend so much money. The great thing about this is you can do it in so many ways.

For example, you could buy domains (a domain name is an address for a site, for example, amazon.com) and sell them for a higher price. This one has become popular in recent years. For example, buy a $10 domain and then sell it $100. It’s that simple. This side-hustle is a great way to start earning money on the side as long as you know what to do.

You can also do this with websites and sell them for a higher price. Another way to do this is to buy things on eBay and sell them on Amazon for more money.

This is beginner-friendly so you can do it without having to crack your skull and it won’t require much time to do it.

Create stuff to sell

If you are talented or have some skill-set this is a great option. There are a lot of people making money from doing this. In fact, you could use this as a way of

starting a business, but this alone won’t make you a six-figure earner. However, if you are strapped for cash then why not use your God-given talents and use that to make money from it. This side is pretty awesome and you can do it at home.

What you can create varies on what you are good at, so it depends. Maybe, you have a knack for writing then you could write a book. If you are artsy then that you can create paintings, handmade goods and anything you can imagine. There are lots of people out there who are using this as a way of making money so why not try it out. This is easier to start than most of the ones I listed above.

Print On demand

Print on demand is a swanky term for creating designs for mostly t-shirts and selling them on platforms. Then you market them and the platform not only sells them and delivers them to your customers. You can sit back and get paid for your efforts, this one is tricky because of the increase in competition so you need to know how to do it well. It also depends on the platform you start with, some are easy and others require far more effort.

You also need to be willing to spend time researching so that you can market them well. It also requires a little bit of investment to start with because you need to market it to your audience and that in itself can take time for you do.

If you start now, it might take a few months for you to make money from it. That’s why it is important that you have an idea of how to do it the right way. There are a lot of people offering courses that will help you speed up the process so you just need to be willing to take the time to do it.  This is an awesome side hustle and there are a lot of people out there who have said print on demand has changed their lives.

Start a blog

This has to be my absolute favorite side-hustling and it is by the far one of the easiest ways to start. When it comes to starting a blog the reason why most people fail is that they do it the wrong way. That’s the problem and that is why they quit within a few months. When I first started that is what happened. In the beginning, I was excited, paid for everything and then there were crickets. I had no idea what to do next.

I had no clue what a CPanel was or even how to use it and I had to figure it all this out by myself. I wracked my head trying to understand what I should do next. It took me months to figure things out no matter how many books or articles I read I still had no freaking clue about blogging.

I hope I didn’t scare you off. You are not me. You are smarter than I was and because you are smarter.

I want to help you start a blog in the simplest way possible. Starting a blog isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to be

complicated. First, a little back story. I first started a blog in 2016, I had no idea how to do it. For me, all the

information out there got lost and I was so confused about what steps to take. Doing anything the first time is

hard, it requires dedication and effort on your part.

When I was talking to one of my client’s the other day, she mentioned how complicated it was because the truth is

not all of us are techno. I certainly wasn’t and when you do something for the first time it is so much harder. If you

are wondering how to start a profitable blog for WordPress in just 10 minutes, this post will help you out. This post

is beginner friendly so I will explain every step in detail so you won’t get lost along the way.

That is why I am writing this post to make it easier for you. So that you can achieve success. You probably are

wondering why you should start a blog. There are numerous reasons why you should start a blog. Here’s an

awesome article from Lifehack on why you should start a blog.

Not convinced, okay here’s another reason why you should start a blog. With blogging, there’s the potential to do

so much more, besides that it is the entry point to starting a blog. A lot of gurus start with doing a blog then they

do podcasts and eventually a YouTube channel. Pat Flynn started with a podcast on his blog and now he has a

Youtube channel. Lewis Howes did the same thing and so did Peter Voogd. You need to start from somewhere and

move up from there.

Now into the meat of the article, here’s a lowdown of all the reasons you should start a blog with Bluehost and how

to do it like a pro. Don’t worry I won’t let you get confused with all the techno rumble you have to wade through.

So, let’s get going.

Why Bluehost

If you have been thinking about doing blogging for a while then you know literally all the blogging names out there.

bit of exaggeration, you might know most of them, but you might have noticed that Bluehost is mentioned a lot.

So, why.

1. Free Domain Name

A domain name is basically an address for your site i.e https://vanessagowora.com. That is a domain, there are a

lot of hosting companies, but the majority of them you have to buy your own domain name. So Hostgator, your

domain name isn’t free and A2Hosting is the same. I love the latter, but most of these hosting companies you have

to pay a steep $12 or $14 just for a name.

You could complicate your life by going to get a cheap domain name, but trust me it gets really complicated if you

do that. Using one site to buy a domain name and the other to pay for your hosting will give you a massive

headache. Wouldn’t recommend it.

2. Great Customer Services

Have you ever spend hours on the phone trying to get in contact with your service provider and with a frustrated

grunt you cut the call. No one has time for that and’s what is great about Bluehost. They care about their clients,

that is why people love to promote them because they get out of their way to make everyone happy. So, who

wouldn’t be happy with that? So, yeah, they are the best. Literally.

3. Affordability

A lot of hosting companies aren’t affordable, but what makes Bluehost awesome is that they are. They are possibly

the cheapest hosting company around and I am talking about features here. A lot of companies will charge you for

extra features just so you can create a blog. Not Bluehost. You are scratching your head right now, thinking what

am I even talking about. Stay with, just a little. We will get there just now.

How to start a blog

Step One – Pay For Hosting

I am making it easy to follow. I am using the images from Bluehost so that you can follow through. To get here go

and click on the button above so you can come here.

The next step you need to take is click on the get started button so that you can be on your way to creating a blog.

Bluehost webhosting

On the next page, you must choose which hosting package you would want. The benefits are listed on the page

itself.

how to start a blog

After this, you will need to setup a new domain name on the next page.

how to start a blog

And the following page, you can now enter your payment details. Here’s where most people get lost, they have no

idea whether they want to pay for hosting for 12, 24 or 36 months. It all depends on what you want. I would

suggest starting with 12 months because the truth is you consistently blog for twelve months then chances are

you will carry on with it.

However, most people don’t pass the 12-month mark so remember baby steps. You can also choose to add on

extras such as privacy or site backup. I would suggest adding site backup. Take it from me there’s nothing more

annoying than realizing your site is down. With site back, it ensures that even if your site isn’t working properly

then you have a copy of it. Yeah, it’s an extra few dollars, but it is so worth it in the long run.

Step Two: Setup Your WordPress with Oneclick Installer

You are almost done, THIS must have taken you at least about two minutes to do. Now, this step is really simple.

You look for your Cpanel (this is your control panel for your Webhosting.) This is a nifty word for where all your

cool tools are housed under one roof.

As you log into your Cpanel, you will get a message saying that Bluehost will install it for you, but there’s a price

attached to it. Don’t worry it isn’t as complicated as it appears.

 Here’s how you do it

  • First thing is to find the blue WordPress button in your Cpanel. This is the one-click installer.
  • On the next page fill out a few options there. Be sure to set both a complicated Admin username and Password. This is to ensure you protect yourself from any attacks. Do not use admin as your username or password. A lot of newbies Do this, I did this in the beginning and as a result I was hacked. Not a great feeling. Make sure you write it down so you never forget,
  • Then click the install button and this will set-up your site.
  • Then you will be given your details, including your username and password. Log in and start building your site from there.

Now, what’s next. Let’s go through the important steps you need to take to get your website up and running.

Seven important steps to take your blog to the next stage

Your website is just a skeleton, you need to do the next steps to make sure that you can start talking about it. And

make money from it, so the next question is how should that be done. That is a good question. When I was first

started, all of this was far too complicated. It felt as if I was running a marathon I couldn’t win, but with time I

realized that it is all about taking baby steps and reading a how-to-guide.

I am making it stupid simple for you to do this. I am using what I learned to help you go over the obstacles that are

in your way so if you want to do this the right way then you need to keep reading on. It gets a little tricky the

further we are to finishing everything so here we go.

1. Choose your theme

I use Divi theme, if you are interested, but if you are just starting out then use a free theme. There are hundreds of

free themes out there and most of them suck like leftover meatloaf. I have tried a couple and I hated most of them.

They either were too basic, slow to load or just plain annoying. Bluehost also offers free themes, but if you want to

stand out I wouldn’t go for them.

how to start a blog

Every day there are people who setup their sites and they use the free themes Bluehost provides. So, the next

question is if that’s the case then where should you go to find an awesome free theme.

Here’s a ridiculously long list of the best free themes out there.

Choose the one that stands out to you. Your theme must look good, let me emphasize, don’t cut corners. There are

so many blogs out there, that you can easily drown in all the noise. People need to fall in love with your site before

they get to know you. Have you ever gone to an ugly site and left right away, that’s because it didn’t catch your

eye.

We are visual creatures and we love things that are pretty.

If you want to have a profitable, you must focus on your theme. This is how you start a blog the right way. If you

are serious about standing out and building a business then Divi is awesome, can be customized and one of the

best themes out there.

2. Install plugins to make your site pop

Most gurus expect everyone to know what a plugin is, but when you are starting out you don’t know. A plugin is

simply a tool with a particular use. For example, you can have a social media plugin and that is there to help you

promote your site to social media sites.

Or you can have a plugin to help with increasing how fast your site loads. There are millions of free plugins out

there, so be careful not to get carried away, Installing too many plugins will mess up with your site. Choose the

right plugins so that you start your blog the right way. If you want your blog to be profitable you can’t skip this step.

Here are the ones you should have on your site

  • Akismet Anti-spam – this filters out spam from the comments on your site so that you don’t have to manually go out of your way to do it.
  • Yoast SEO – It isn’t as complicatad as it sounds, but SEO is what the online marketers call search engine optimization. If you know anything about the internet then you understand how important it is to have keywords. The more relevant keywords you have, the more you stand out on Google.
  • W3 Total Cache – This helps load your site a lot faster and doesn’t put pressure your Webhosting. A lot of people today use mobiles to search online and that is where this nifty tool helps. If your page loads too slowly then they will go to another website. Let’s say your content goes viral if your site crashes then you have lost potential customers. This tool helps to make sure you don’t go through that.

3. Experiment, experiment

  • Do you want a colorful website, maybe you want one that is simple? Do you want a sidebar or no sidebar? My website doesn’t have sidebars except for a few pages. I realized that I wanted to stand out so opting out of using a sidebar seemed like the best choice.
  • Get design inspiration. Don’t steal, just look at sites in your niche and then you can craft your site in a similar way. If you don’t know anything about designing a website, it will be confusing. That is why it is to check what works and what doesn’t.
  • Add a logo to your site, you can use Fiverr to do this or use GIMP.

4. Create Your Menu

So, when you are starting out you need to realize that there are a few pages that you need to have. On your

dashboard, scroll down to where it says pages then click on add page. This is the easier way for you to create

pages that way when you are doing your menu they come up automatically. Wish I did this in the beginning. Most

people tend to not pay attention to this step and that is why they struggle to get their blog off the ground. This is

how you start a blog the right way.

Here are a few pages you need to add

  • Start Here
  • About
  • Blog
  • Contact
  • Privacy
  • Disclosure

 5. Writing Your First Blog Post

If you are confused where you should go so you can write your first blog post. Look below. When you are on your

dashboard, look for something called posts. Click on that and click on add new. It will take you to this page and

then you can write your first blog post.

Rule of thumb: Google loves long posts so anything from 1000 words to 3000 will show up more often than blog

posts that are less than 1000 words.

Blog Post

Now on to publishing your post.

Since you are using Bluehost, you will see something that says “Coming Soon” even after writing your first post.

When you are ready to make your blog public, just click on Bluehost at the top right hand corner. Click on the

Launch button to remove the Coming Soon page.

6.  Promote site

On to the fun part, well depending on how much you like marketing. Creating an awesome site and great content is

only part of the puzzle. The other is promoting your content. Blogging isn’t easy and promoting your blog isn’t easy

as well. There are so many factors you need to consider, for example, how do you get traction and how do you get

sales.

The list goes on and on. I could go on and on, but if I am being honest it would take me forever to do that.

To begin with, you need to have at least five posts then the easier way to promote your site is via Pinterest. This is

great start at the beginning, you could also post on Facebook groups to get more traction. In the beginning, you

need to start small and move your way up from there.

7. Monetize it

This is the part where everyone looks forward to. Because the question at the top of everyone’s mind is can I make

money from blogging. Yes, you. A lot actually. There are a lot of blogs where people are earning $100,000 a month.

Can you imagine that? Imagine how different your life be? The freedom at your disposal, not having to listen to

your boss lecture you for a good 30 minutes straight.

Not having to worry about bills. This is, however, not a get-rich-scheme. You don’t do the work, you don’t get paid.

Your life doesn’t change. It is that simple, but there are so many ways you can earn money via your blog.

  •  Provide services – you can use your blog to provide services, for example, consulting services
  • Affiliate marketing – sell other people’s products and earn a commission from it
  • Create your own product – you can create your own products; t-shirts, ebooks, printables, templates and the list goes on.
  • Coaching – coach people and make money from that. You could charge $100 per hour
  • Facebook groups – have an idea to do a paid Facebook group

You can literally do anything with a blog. The sky is the limit. It comes down to what your limit is. Those are the

seven steps to creating a blog. Of course, there’s more to it than this, but that post would literally take me the

whole day to create. And it would be far too long that you might want not want to read it anyway.

25 Rock Star Millennial Bloggers That You Need To Know

25 Rock Star Millennial Bloggers That You Need To Know

25 ROCK STAR MILLENNIAL BLOGGERS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

A look at 25 Influential Millennial Bloggers and their journey to success.

The big difference between a successful blogger and one that isn’t is their list. Many of the bloggers I have mentioned in this post have managed to successfully conquer the one-year blogging obstacle. Most bloggers start their blogs and in less than a year quit. Google penalizes new blogs so any blog that hasn’t been out there for at least a year fails to get traction. And fails to get a huge following and therefore doesn’t make as much an impact as they want. The reason why these bloggers are rock stars because they have changed the world through their blog, built business, created an impact and used their platform to help people. These 25 millennial bloggers kept going despite the numerous obstacles in their way.

More and more millennials are quitting their day jobs to pursue blogging and often they don’t have the right teachers to steer them on the right path. That is why I created this list as inspiration and so you know it is absolutely possible to go for your dreams no matter how weird it may be. A lot of the bloggers here started without any money or help and a lot of them are millionaires. It isn’t about how much you have, but how much you are willing to go for your dreams. It is possible that you can achieve what they have. Here’s a post on how you can start your business in just three months

These millennial bloggers have changed the game and have made it easier to implement their success by offering guidance. I have listed three main categories foe millennial bloggers. There are other niches I excluded such as the travel and food niche. However, we can learn a lot from these millennial bloggers. I hope this serves as encouragement to go for your dreams.

Career and Entrepreneurship

Chelsea Krost

If you have no idea who Chelsea Krost is you are missing out on knowing an exceptionally motivational and millennial blogger. Chelsea is the type of woman you want to know or be friends with, her energetic personality has made it impossible to forget her Ted Talks. If I am being honest, I didn’t know who Chelsea was and now I regret that. She has been rated as the top Millennial Influencers, she’s a sought out keynote speaker and she has been changing the game since she was just sixteen years old. She was the youngest broadcast radio producer way back in 2007. It was then that she created a talk show called Millennials by Millennial. There’s an awesome blog post about how to get a breakthrough by creating long-term goals and working backward.

Erin Flynn

Erin’s blog is all about teaching you how to create a business without driving you crazy. Her blog focuses on ways that you can build your brand and do what you love so that you can live your best life no matter what. She mainly focuses on helping web designers create a sustainable business that you can use to leave your 9 – 5 job. A lot of her services are focused on helping web designers create businesses that don’t require you working like a donkey. That is what is great about Erin’s blog, she shows you all the ways you can achieve this without having to work tirelessly to achieve it. There’s an awesome post she wrote about why you are attracting cheap clients.

GenTwenty

Gentwenty has been around the block since 2013 and it was created as a way to dispell myths about generation Y. If you are a millennial in your twenties then this is a great blog because it talks about everything from career to self-development to health and the list goes on. It also has an extensive library of free resources on how to build your career. The main purpose of GenTwenty is to teach you how to rock in your twenties so this is a great place to start if you need help with what steps you should take next in your life. Here is a blog post on how to make more money

Neil Patel

Neil Patel is known as the online marketing guru, he teaches people how to make money from their businesses by marketing it the right way. I came across Neil Patel’s blog in 2017 and I realized he has been there for a couple of years. I would say he focuses more on how to improve your business growth. His other blog Quicksprout shows people how they can grow their business a lot faster by improving their traffic. The reason I put Neil here in the Career and Entrepreneurship category is he is one of the first online marketers who came and showed that there was a better way to grow your business. His quick tactics have changed thousands of people’s lives and helped them understand all about SEO, traffic, and ranking in Google.

Joel Brown

Way back in 2016, I came across Joel Brown’s website. It was here that I discovered more about him and I was intrigued about his personal journey to success. He started in the music industry in Australia, but something felt off and it was then that he decided he wanted to do more so he started learning from gurus. It was here that he decided to start a blog. Addicted2Success is the number 1# motivation site in the world. He has been featured in 4 Documentary films and has been featured in a number of publications. With his website, he plans on changing the world and raising enough money to build a school in Laos with Pencils of Promise. Addicted2Success teaches people how to do more with less, improve their lives, start and grow their businesses. It is the ultimate site for motivation.

Jen Carrington

Jen helps creatives make their own rules and live by their own terms. If you are a freelancer than she’s a great option. There are a lot of great things she helps creatives with such as tackling fear, being mindful, helping creatives move forward with their businesses and the list goes on. She’s even deliberate with her time, taking 18 weeks off in the year to travel, enjoy life and spend quality time with her family. Check out her latest posts.

Ashley Stahl

Ashley Stahl is all about helping you decide what career is the best for you. In University we all wish that the career counselors could give us advice that actually works, but most of the time their advice doesn’t do the trick. It doesn’t show us who we are meant to be or what we should do with our lives. Ashely has a unique career journey, she once was a government entrepreneur and now she’s a badass entrepreneur. She’s one of the best millennial bloggers out. Her whole experience resonates with me since I have had a similar experience after leaving university. She shows you want you are meant to do and how to get there. So, maybe the career that you are doing right now isn’t the right fit, Ashley helps you get crystal clear on your goals and which direction you should take. Job hunting shouldn’t be so hard and Ashley makes it easier for you. Being an entrepreneur is hard, Ashley understands this better than anyone and she wrote a blog post on how to let your why be your guide.

Daniel Dipiazza

Daniel is one of my favorite millennial bloggers, simply because of how inspirational his story is. He was a broke waiter at 24 who decided he wanted to change his outcome so he started to work as a freelancer on Upwork. He made $24,000 in a couple of months and managed to quit his 9-5. He created two awesome brands, the first one is still popular today Rich20Something. He wrote a book in 2017 about how you can achieve a rich lifestyle and quit your job. The book was a bestseller. He also has an awesome Youtube channel and a podcast where he helps people to build a lifestyle that they want. You can find out more about him here.

Foundr

Nathan Chan is the founder of Foundr. I contemplated whether I should put it here or not because Foundr is more of an online magazine. However, I realized that the resources that it has are unparallel to a lot of blogs out there. The main purpose of Foundr is to help entrepreneurs to create businesses that work and to make an impact. Nathan Chan created this way back in 2013 when he caught the entrepreneurship bug. The first person he actually interviewed was Richard Branson and since then they have released awesome publications every year since then. The great thing about Foundr is they have podcasts, books and courses all created so that you can live your best life and achieve greatness. Here are a couple of articles on how to start a business the right way.

Mariah Coz

Mariah Coz is like a younger Marie Forleo. She demonstrates what it means to be a millennial blogger. She’s the epitome of girl boss and even her website makes you want to know more about her. She offers great resources to help build your business without stressing over it. What makes Mariah so great is that she talks to you like you are chums. She’s so relatable that it is incredible to have someone like her offer keys to success. Her advice is solid and she helps you get over the barriers that push you back. You definitely need to read more about her. Here is a post on how to be profitable at blogging.

Lifestyle Millennial Bloggers

The Confused Millennial

If you have no idea who Rachel is, you need to go to her site as soon as possible. What makes Rachel’s blog great is she’s a multi-passionate millennial who helps other millennials figure out all this adulting thing. She’s like the friend we all want and she helps us navigate through life. Her blog has a lot of awesome blog posts on personal development, career and lifestyle tips. She’s also one of the most popular Millennial Lifestyle Bloggers out there so you definitely need to check out her site. Here’s a blog post about how millennials can live their best life.

The Motivated Millennial

Hannah does it all, she teaches computer studies and business at two colleges. She has an MBA, is a marketing consultant and a caregiver advocate. She also manages to maintain her travel, lifestyle and career blog. I have no idea where she finds the time, but she still does all this. Proving that you don’t have to just do one thing, you can have various careers. Hannah is one of the best millennial bloggers out there. That is what makes Hannah’s blog great because she teaches you that you don’t have to be focused on going one route. The Motivated Millennial is dedicated to teaching you how to progress in your career, find work you love, enjoy the world by traveling and change your life.  Check out her latest post on entrepreneurship.

All Groan Up

All Groan Up just happens to be one of my favorite Millennial Lifestyle Blogs. Simply because it helps you navigate your twenties. As teens we all think that it is hard being a teenager then you enter your twenties and life shifts. You are given more responsibility and everyone expects you to be grown up, but you still feel as though you are a teenager. You are still as confused as you were when you were eighteen. You keep being friends with the wrong people and your dating life hasn’t exactly improved. Paul Angone gives insight on how to make your twenties rock. He’s more than just a blogger, he’s a speaker, consultant, and author. His website makes you feel warm inside. If you want to know more about Paul, just go here

Finance and Money Millennial Bloggers

I Will Teach You To Be Rich

Ramit Sethi is the Richard Kiyosaki for millennials. His whole premise is he will help you to become rich and his best selling book I Will Teach You To Be Rich does that. Ramit Sethi has made a name for himself by being the nonsense financial guru we all want, but can’t afford. He enters showing the various ways you can save money, make more money in a week than you did in a month and giving you guidance on how to change your life. Let’s be real, we all want to change our lives, but we feel as if we can’t. There’s so much that comes at us and we find ourselves stuck. How many Youtube videos do you watch about how to make money online. Most of them don’t work, but Ramit Sethi’s methods work. He once was like us, broke and unemployed and he changed his life. You can find his latest blog articles here.

Millennial Money

Grant Sabatier created Millennial Money in 2015 and since then he has changed the world with his insight on how to gain financial independence. He did what most people struggle to do. At the time he only had $2.6 in his bank account. Now he owns three companies and has over $2 million in his bank account. He achieved financial freedom at 30 years old and now he dedicates his time to helping millennials do the same thing. His insight will help you cut the learning curve. You can find his latest blog posts here

Millennial Money Man

I follow Millennial Money Man almost religiously, his experience is pretty much what most people go through after graduating from University. After graduation, discovered he was $150,000 in debt and he started doing his teaching job. He hated it, most of us go through this sickening feeling that we don’t particularly enjoy what we are doing. That is what he went through. Bobby Hoyt quit his teaching job after he made $3 from display ads. He teaches millennials how to make and save money and do side hustles. His life story is inspirational because it proves that we all have the skillset and talent to go for our dreams, but what stops us is because we don’t believe in ourselves. Bobby didn’t learn finance in university, he learned music and yet he has a blog about advising people on how to make money. Any skill can be learned, all it requires is dedication. Here’s one post where he writes about how you can make money online.

 Amanda Abella

Amanda has been making strides since 2010. She found herself in a position that many millennials do, she couldn’t find a job after graduating from university. She knew that the only way to survive in the job recession was to create her own job and that is when her blogging journey began. She is also an Amazon best-selling author and has been featured in Forbes and Inc. Amanda Abella teaches people how to make money online and sort out their financial problems. Her strategies are straight to the point and she guides you on how to change your life. Her top blog posts show how you can get what you want in life by focusing on it.

Whitney Hansen

I was introduced to Whitney Hansen by Hannah from The Motivated Millennial. She described Whitney’s blog as awesome and I have to agree it is. Her story is also different from most people on this list. She bought her first house at 19. When I read that I couldn’t believe it, that in itself is shocking and she managed to pay off $33 000 in debt in 10 months. I mean if that doesn’t make her a rock star, I have no idea what will. She teaches millennials how to pay off debt and gain financial independence. What makes her great is she has a BA in Accounts and an MBA in Business, she also has a true started from the bottom kind of story. Her story is beyond inspirational. What made Whitney’s journey to financial success all comes down to the lessons she learned from her mother.

Young Adult Money

David Carlson understands what it means to be a millennial who is striving to make it. If you want to know everything there is to know about financial freedom he is your guy. If you want to know how to make money online then hop onto his site and he’ll show you how to do it the right way. If you have a problem with saving money (don’t we all,) then David is your guy. There’s a great post he wrote about how to make money the lazy way.

Frugal Millennial

I don’t know about you, but in my early twenties, I had a problem with overspending. I would walk into a shop and walk out with something I knew I didn’t need or would never use. There were so many times when I was broke because of this need to just spend. Jen like most millennials believed that getting a Master’s degree would set off her career. After she graduated in 2013, she found herself jobless and $75,000 in debt. It was then that she realized she needed to make a choice. She teaches millennials how to make smarter financial choices. One thing I have realized is that it is easier to spend money and harder to earn it. So having Jen guide you so you can make smarter choices is a win. Jen teaches millennials how to make smarter choices, she’s a down-to-earth blogger who has the approach that she’s not a guru. All she wants is to help millennials do better with their money. Here’s a great post on how to save money.

 Life And My Finances

Derek Sall started his blog in 2010 and he was $18,000 in debt. Within 14 months he had paid off the debt. At the time he was married, but his wife wanted a divorce and in 2012 they divorced. She wanted half of their income and he found himself back in debt. Along the way Derek has learned a lot of invaluable lessons, but he strives to teach people how they can become completely debt-free. Here’s a great post about short-term financial goals to strive for.

A Millinnial Blog by A Millennial

Creator Interviews: Episode 1

Tell us a little about yourself

Heyyy! I’m Motunde Sotuminu; Motty for short. I’m from Nigeria and a recent Law graduate as well as the Founder and Blogger behind Motty Inspires. I blog on all things personal development, lifestyle, and empowerment for millennials.

Why did you decide to start a blog?

Well, I reached a turning point in my life and became heavily acquainted with personal development and it honestly changed my life in all areas i.e spiritually, academically, financially. In early 2016, I stumbled across a quote which said ‘I want to inspire people, I want someone to look at me and say because of you I didn’t give up.’ That summed up my mission in life and considering I had always loved to write, I was able to discover what exactly I wanted to blog on.

What is your message and why do you think it is relevant today?

My message is a message of hope, of inspiration and of empowerment to millennials. People who come across me today don’t realise what my journey was

like prior to me starting Motty Inspires. My story is one of hope against all odds and I’m here to give people the inspiration that if I can do it, you can too. I’ve

made a lot of mistakes in my life but my message to people does not let anything define or limit you, that includes your past, your background, circumstances,

etc. As long as there’s life, there’s still hope.

{

My story is one of hope against all odds and I’m here to give people the inspiration that if I can do it, you can too.

What would you do differently if you were starting in your industry now?

Be patient with the process and focus on writing good content and building a solid audience and also be more confident in promoting my content. Stepping outside your comfort zone is scary but it is essential. There is no point in writing good content but it’s not read by anyone.

Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?

I draw inspiration from different people, different situations and places. I think self-help books, in general, have influenced my growth as well as solidifying my relationship with God.

What would you say is the #1 key to success in your business?

Consistency and creating good content that people will like and will help them. I always say ‘if you work smart, keep at it, stay consistent, it’s only a matter of time before the opportunités you once prayed for start coming your way.’ There’s a quote which says ‘success comes when preparation meets opportunity.“ And I’m just beginning to get the recognition and opportunities because I’ve remained consistent against all odds. I have faced challenges, there have been tough days, there have been days where I compared my growth to others and questioned my abilities, but I remembered my WHY and this has kept me going.

What does a typical day in your week look like?

I’ve recently just finished university so things are going to switch up for me. But on average, I wake up around 6:30 or 7 am, pray and have devotion. I would then speak to my mum and head to the shower and get my day started. I would usually have lectures throughout the week with assignments or exams to prepare for. At the end of the day, I usually dedicate it to my blog- working on the weeks content,  checking my stats, checking social media, responding to emails and catching up with family. I would end the day with prayer and back on Instagram again lol. And that’s how every typical day for me is like.

Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it?

I see failure as failure if that makes sense. There’s no big or small. I fail every day but what I think is important is learning from them and getting back up. And that’s why I think perfection is a myth. Don’t strive for perfection but strive for progress.

What was the biggest obstacle you faced in starting your business and why?

Omg, having my website shut down was probably my biggest obstacle and it was a surprising and confusing moment for me. I came back home one day and went on my site only for it to show ‘php error’. I was freaking out but I just had to bury my head down and think of a solution. I knew giving up wasn’t even an option and I had invested some money in my blog, especially since I was self-hosting. So I had to spend money again to get a new domain, theme and get my site up and running. That was in April 2017, I’ve learned a lot from that experience.

{

There’s a quote which says ‘success comes when preparation meets opportunity’

If you could, what would you say to the younger version of you?

Use your youth wisely. All those cutting corners and messing about won’t pay off. Be good, do good. Enjoy each moment. You don’t want to live life with regrets so do good. And be open, don’t hide your feelings, ask for help when you need it. Let God be your best friend. A personal relationship with God is the key to a successful and fulfilling life.

What advice would you give to anyone who is just starting on their business?

Make sure you know why you are starting and what you really want to do. You’ve got to be passionate and truly interested and willing to invest in your business. And it’s one thing to start but it’s another thing to continue. Consistency will unlock opportunities. It’s your key to success. If you hang in there and you show up, the opportunities will come knocking. There will be hard times but let your passion keep you going.

Where can people find you?

You can find me on my blog Motty Inspires, Twitter and Instagram.
